    i started investing late last year and i didnt sell a stock till 2008, does this mean i don't have to worry about taxes until next march?

    sorry i keep asking questions, but i have trouble finding tax info on irs.gov and google etc and you guys on here seem to have enough experiance

    Yes, you don't have worry about taxes until you actually sell your stock.   However, if your stock has paid you divident in 2007, you will have to report it on your 2007 taxes.

    Stardust is right. However, dividend payments depend on the record date and not on the payable date, unless otherwise stated by your payer, the dividend-paying stocks of the corps. For example, BXP, Poston Properties, pay its fourth quarter regular dividend, along with a special dividend, on Jan 31, 2008, for shareholder on record on Dec 31, 2007. These dividends payed on 2008, but they were considered as part of the income of 2007, the year of the record date.
