    are there profits in day trading?

    By day trading I mean buying stock and selling in a few days or weeks. I hear different opinions with some people say don't do it and others saying different. I would like some opinions, thanks.

    I think its better to hold longer. With daytrading your trying to catch every movement in the stock and its easy to miss. Follow the trend and you should come out ahead in the long run.

    Hello hutton

    Do you think you could repair the space shuttle. If you went to school to learn how and you understood what you were doing sure you could.

    Well it is the same thing with trading if you learn how to trade you can make money.

    Answer this: What have you done to educate yourself about trading?

    There's no question most people lose money when they start out trading. For beginning traders, you should expect to lose money for at least the first 6 months. If you can't afford to lose money, then trading is not a good idea for you.

    The reason beginner traders lose money is because trading requires experience. You can't get experience without actually having the experience of trading. You can "paper trade" but even that is not a good substitute. Reading books is somewhat helpful but it won't prepare you for all of the difficult decisions you will face in the real world. Trading is a psychological activity and it takes great discipline.

    It is possible to become a successful trader in time, but not everyone is cut out for it. Good luck.

    It is possible to become a millionair in one day in any type of major exchance (stock, forex, bonds etc.). However, in order to do so you either have to have tons of knowledge and experience dealing with markets, be the luckiest SOB in the entire world, or have insider info. So yes there are profits in day trading, just not for you or I.

    One day, I know that I will understand how to do it, but I only have 5 years under my belt. I'm a complete n00b! Patience is how I will make money in markets. And one day I will have so much understanding of the markets. I will "get" it. And by that I mean I will understand how one little piece of information could affect bonds, which would then affect the currency, so stocks will rise 2%. Yea. Something like that.

    You are actually talking more about swing-trading than actual day-trading. The question is more about the time you have to put into learning how to trade and the time you have to watch your stocks on a daily basis. The average investor sitting at home usually does not have a lot of time to monitor their stocks every day all day long.

    I personally think you can be successful swing trading, but it can be very stressful especially for a beginner. Many people simply do not have the stomach to watch their stocks everyday going up and down.

    As someone above stated trading stocks plays on your emotions a lot especially if you are an active trader.

    I just started trading back in August. I put $500 into an account @ Etrade and within 3 months my account value was $225. I have since recovered from the losses and now my account is at $547. I have been very diligent with following the markets, usually check hourly which seems to be a pattern that works well for me. So yes, I think you can make money swing trading, just be prepared to face a steep learning curve. BTW my worst move was using Etrade instead of Zecco. I have made Etrade $235 in comparison to myself $47.
