Here it is.... the big debate - will Blockbuster BBI rebound ? Its obvious that it has hit near rock bottom.  I have seen predictions that it will double over the next four quarters. Worth a buy, worth stocking up on.  Anyone wanna chime in....

I tend to look at the company rather than its stock price.  The best information, IMHO, is found from reviewing its financials--looking at its quarterly earnings on a rolling, four-quarter basis is useful.   I'd look at cash flow from operations on the same rolling, four quarter basis.

Predicting the stock price, IMO, is difficult: it's an exercise in crowd psychology--what will everyone else think.  Ultimately, the stock price aligns itself--however briefly--with the engine that drives it: the financials.

A helpful site for investing is Morningstar. I bought their Stocks500 book in 2004 and although I didn't have enough money to invest at the time, the stocks I would have invested in that were suggested returned around 70%.
For people who are still in college, it's a good idea to look through your library's database proxy server. I know at my school that they have Morningstar Library Edition(can be accessed from any computer with your ID) which is really helpful for technical and fundamental analysis. It also puts earnings, growth, and valuation ratios into perspective to the stock's performance.

Does anyone know if there is any way to open a custodial account with Zecco?  I am 16 and cannot open an individual or joint account because of my age.

I am new to Zecco and I  am currently in the process of transferring my account from SoGoInvest to Zecco. What types of fees should I expect? Who should be charging me the fees? Will they bill me or take it out of the cash in my account? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

    Clarify?

Could someone clarify the concept of shorting for me? I know it's risky and I'm not looking to get into shorting but I am just curious about it. How does it work? Do you borrow the shares, sell them, then buy them back for a lower price in order to return them? I'm looking for a simplified explanation if anyone has one. Where does one borrow shares from? Thanks for your help

You have the idea.  Borrow the shares from the broker, sell them, then you have to buy shares later to pay back the broker.  Which means if the price goes up you are going to take a loss.

check this link for a more in depth description.

You're welcome. It usually doesn't hurt to leave your money in a market-tracking etf or index fund until you've decided on your stock strategy.

OK, I'll bite....why? I won't deny some people do well with Tech trading, but why is it more superior than EVERY other investment style. I would never such a claim claim. I don't see how you can either without having some stuff ready to prove it.

    I'll make you a challenge.

Now this only works if you don't know anything about the company. Wait I take that back. most people only think they know about it..so here it goes. Explain to me what you see in the future for First Marblehead (FMD). Short and long term. I would love to say more, but it would ruin the exercise...

If you make a more accurate prediction than I can, I will add "Purely Technical is a technical trading god" with a link to your website to my signature here. If I'm wrong, you have to put something similar on yours with a link to a site of my choice (you can approve the link to guarantee your not putting up anything you feel wrong about - it will be a respected investor site.). Lets say the signature has to stay untouched for 2 months?

Nobody can accurately predict what will happen to any stock long term....there are too many variables.  Both fundamental and technical analysis have merit and if you use them together than you can improve your odds of success.  Winning in stocks is a game of probability and you always want to put the odds in your favor.  I am a short term trader and the reason for this over long term(buy and hold approach) is very simple.  There is no gain in holding a stock which is declining in value.  If you only want to trade one or a few stock then you will come out ahead by selling the stock when the price is high and buying more of it when it reaches a bottom.   I trade stocks with good fundamentals and use technical analysis to buy the stock when it becomes a great stock and sell it as it converts back to just being a good stock.
