VTI is one of my favorites.  It's a no brainer-Total Market diversification with 1 symbol.

My top four favorite ETFs are CVY, HGI, PEY, and DVY. My investment priorities are steady and ever growing dividends along with growth.

My favorite ETFs are the broad-based ones:

    SPY
    QQQQ
    IOO
    EFV or EFA
    VBR

These ETFs are long-term investments due to being broad-based.

You also could buy sectors that you really like:

    Consumer Staples
Tech (software, hardware, chips, handhelds, and servers)
    Healthcare/Biotech
    Automobile Industry
Retail (department stores, restaurants, hotels, and some services)
Financials (brokers, banks, lenders, and insurers)
    Construction
    Telecommunications
    Chemicals
    Aerospace & Defense
    Airliners
    Infrastructure/Industrials
    Energy/Commodities

I really like the StateStreet etf's.  They have a broad range depending on what marketcap, style, industry, region, etc you want.

Specifically I like their foreign etf's China (gxc), Latin America (gml), and MidEast/Africa (gaf).  Their BRIC etf (bik) however is a little to China Heavy (42%) and India Light (6%) for my tastes.

Also their sector etf's seems pretty good.

    My favorites:

BIK (SPDR BRIC) - Rapid growth BRIC countries and diversification.  Large holding in CHL which may start selling iPhone in China.  Low expense ratio.  Chart looks good.

MOO (MV Agribusiness) - Rapid growth industry, new ETF, safer than jumping into individual AG stocks with lofty PEs.  Should do well LT since people will always have to eat.  Low expense ratio (at least until next spring).

    Also interested in and researching:

MYP (Focus Homeland Security) - New ETF, may be great play on ever-increasing spending in this arena.

PVF (Focus Sindex) - New ETF, "sin" stocks have always been a good LT investment and with more disposable income in developing nations these stocks should do well.  The Chinese for example, are trending toward premium liquors, and cigarette smoking is still increasing in nearly all countries, except the US.

    Thoughts?

EWZ, rode it through the first dip and still cashed out at +26% right before this recent tumble... probably should have done the same with VWO but oh well. I would have loved to get into some of ishares china etfs... but I think I'm too late for china...

But BLDRS has some nice funds... emerging markets like BLDRS Emerging Markets... attractive dividends for what you can argue is the "same" stuff. But I mainly look at ishares and vanguard. And as you can tell I concentrate on foreign ETFS, emerging, euro, latin and china (i have a mutual fund that invests heavily in pacific and I have not been pleased with that region).

My feeling about domestic etfs and industry etfs: stop being lazy and build your own etf with a diverse portfolio and no management fee ;) -- but thats just how I see it.

I don't agree with you on India and China; those markets really make me much more nervous than Brazil. I find Brazil's economy to be highly innovative and deserving of a higher price. I am leaning towards India over China, but India might be overpriced. I like Chinese REITs due to the Olympics, but I think that will have no impact or little impact on the stock market.

The two that I have bought are BIK and DGS. Both are down at the moment but seemed interesting to me, especially DGS which has about 350 emerging market small cap businesses in 17 countries that pay dividends. It just started around the beginning of November. I think it has great potential based on how the choose what companies are included. It is from WisdomTree so you can go there or Google it.

I currently own three ETF's in my porfolio and they are doing pretty well with the exception of EWZ which took a pull back but I llok at it as an opportunity to buy at lower than what I originally paid for.

    But here are my three:

PBW - PowerShares WilderHill Clean Energy --- Chose this one because it's mostly securities that makes up solar and alternative energy solutions. It's performing the best for me right now and for obvious reasons. Green, Green, Green. The wave of the future.

XLP - Consumer Staples Select Sect. SPDR --- Every portfolio needs a bulletproof stock or fund and I decided to ride with XLP. All we've been hearing lately is recession, recession, recession. So if this do permit in the future, guess what? Individuals are going to stop spending on high price merchandise and start thinking budget. This ETF consists of food companies in which everyone needs, Cleaning products and solutions such as Proctor Gamble, Wal-Mart for department stores and Individuals are going to continue to drink and Smoke (look up Altria) You can see the top holdings in this index and you will be convince of its potential.

EWZ - ISHARE MSCI BRAZIL F --- Brazil economy is booming and this is an obvious choice if your into emergin markets. This is one of the best performing ETF's in South America.
