Using zecco dot com via your iphone

    Reply Quote

I was just curious about it so I thought I'd ask anyone here who uses an iphone.  How well does the zecco website work on the iphone?  Flawlessly, or are there any problems?  Also, while we're on the subject, is the "stocks" application any good or is it garbage??

    Thanks, in advance, BF

    sorry no iphone,

By stocks application do you mean the allowing other users to see what stocks you have purchased? If so it is nice. It allows other to see what stocks you bought, at what price, and what percent of your portfolio it is. It does not share how many stocks you bought or how much money is in your portfolio ect. It allows other users to see what transactions you've made in the last 30 days and allows them to discuss why you bought/sold/short/cover ect that stock.

    Hey,

Thanks for trying to answer.  But, no, by "Stocks" I mean the native iphone application called "Stocks" which is found on the iphone homepage.  Anyhoo, really, what I wanted to know is if the scripting on zecco dot com is viewable using the iphone web browser.  Here's to hoping at least one zecco user uses an iphone.....

I used the iphone today to go to Zecco.  It worked great.  No problems, but I did not go through much of the site.  I just logged in to enter trades.  If you have an AT&T store near you or an Apple store, you can go right in to those stores and play with the iphone.  If you are thinking about buying one, you should go play with one at the store.

I have not used the stocks application.

I'd say flawless for the most part. At work using wi-fi, I have even bought/sold trades on my iphone. Zooming in and out is required but very quick and easy. Everything works perfectly. It's my mini-laptop! The "stocks" app is a good quick reference to your stocks' progress, as long as your not anal about the 20 min delay.

    I've been wondering also?

Hey bud I've been wondering this same question myself I'm pretty new to zecco but it would make it easy to trade stocks via your day jobs lunchbreak :)

I seen that the iphone runs safari web browser which you can get a copy for xp or vista
and it runs www.zecco.com just fine.  So let me know if you find out any more info on it running zecco's website.  I think the stock button is not realtime on the iphone but probably uploads every 20minutes or so.  If you got the instant messenger plugin for the iphone you could technically set yahoo finance alerts so if your stock was going up or down it could send you an alert to the iphone. via e-mail, yahoo, or the cell.  The internet part I'm pretty sure runs on your cellphone signal instead of the wi-fi which is nice because wi-fi aint everywhere..

I saw that at@t plans run about $60.00 for unlimited data and internet with a small amount of minutes per month.

Let me know if you figure anything out.

I bought my iphone a few days ago and I was trying to use iPhone to trade stocks and options. The navigation is ok but the web pages are too complicated for mobile device. And the biggest problem is that no matter what order I enter, the order is always rejected with the following error message "Buy/sell in order does not match strategy definition". I emailed customer service and they said zecco.com is compactable with IE and firefox and sugguest me to use those. What kind of answer is that? Of course, I would have used IE if it is available on iPhone. I used iPhone with other online brokers, none seems to have problems. I guess you get what you paid for. Zecco has reduced the number of free trade and I have not seen any improvement as they promised. I am thinking of switching.

That is true that Zecco is not compatible with internet on mobile phones and PDAs, but it does work on the iphone. The iphone is the only cellular device that allows to to see actual websites. Other PDAs see a PDA version of websites which cuts out some images and large objects to allow it to be viewed on a PDA device without it taking an hour to come up. With the iphone, you see the same webpage you would see from your home computer.

I've been struggling with my iPhone and Zecco for a few months now.  The critical path seems to be the speed of the data connection, as a good wifi signal will allow your trade to go through, while a cruddy wifi connection, or worse, an Edge connection (cell tower-enabled, slower than wifi, faster than dial-up) will seem to 'time out' your transaction and kick you out of your log-in.  You then have to sign back in and go through all of the requisite pages to get back to the Trading center and try again, and more than likely get kicked out again.  Frustrating-- especially since one of the primary reasons I bought an iPhone was to have the capability of trading with it.  It seems as though Zecco's site script 'pings' the connection on a frequent basis, and if the device doesn't 'answer' quick enough, it gets dropped.  The iPhone's Software Developer Kit is scheduled to be out this month (Feb. '08) for all third party software developers to create applications to run on the iPhone.  It would be awfully nice (savvy, even) of Zecco to make use of the info in this SDK to streamline the connectivity between device and site so people like me can recommend Zecco.com to all of their iPhone-toting friends who would like to effectively trade on the fly.  If nothing changes in the next few months, I'll likely go back to Scottrade.

Thanks for the info. I was actually going to purchase an iphone here in the next little while, so that I won't have to use the company's computer to trade stocks.  Looks like I will have to do some more research before making a decission.

I've been trying the iphone to trade stocks and I agree with this assessment.  The EDGE network is impossible to trade stocks.  I wasn't able to trade anything on the EDGE network, as I had to run through the gauntlet of login screens and place the order, and in all attempts except one, I never was able to get through to the last order screen without having to re-enter my trading key and starting all over again.

The wi-fi was much better in terms of not having to re-enter the trading key again and again, but I noticed another problem...

in the transition from the first order screen, where you enter in buy/sell, symbol, shares, limit, etc., and the second one, where you confirm your order, the information wasn't exactly transferred, and as a result the order wasn't placed.  I received the message "Buy/sell in order does not match strategy definition".  I don't know if going back and forth between the first and second order screens until the right information is transferred, and then confirm it, will will fix the problem.  I thought I noticed a "N/A" where there should have been a "buy" or "sell" statement on the second order screen, but I was at my day job and don't have time to record notes and stuff. I'm also wondering if adding the Tablet program from Inventive Labs, where the second order screen comes up in a new window in Safari, will fix the problem.  I'm going to try this and then I'll post a follow-up, but I wanted to post my findings to see if anyone has found a work-around.
