Three Stocks But Can Only Buy One

    Reply Quote
    Top Pick:  UTX
Second Pick: PG (this was the top pick but now I'm thinking do I really need consumer staples?)
    Third Pick: T

Contenders (but won't likely buy any of these but am looking at these for potential future purchases)
    DE
    CAT (would be 2nd share)
    COP (too high)
    PEP (would be 2nd share)
    PRU
    ABT
    CELG
    GSK
    GOOG
    XLK
    COST

I prefer JNJ to PG right now on valuation. JNJ's P/E is about 15 based on earnings not excluding one-time items (~4.13).

Looks like the whole market is going to get a bit cheaper over the next few weeks/months/years...

I am picking my spots, for sure.

Why COST? What about SHLD or WAG?

Out of the 3 you're considering I like PG the best.  UTX would be my 2nd choice.  I would stay away from T.  I'm basing this on a quick review of the charts, mostly, and from what little I know about the companies and their respective industries.  If you buy PG here I would put the stop just below 62.50.

I like UTX out of the top 3.  I am looking into buying ABB because that is the only sector that I want to own, but I do not.  I purchased Verizon because I think telecom is going to do well this year, and the following, and the following.  Also, I am not a fan of healthcare.  I just don't understand it, or have a desire to know about it.

I will now compare UTX, with ABB to see if I like UTX better.

Edit:  Although they are both conglomorates, ABBs growth seems to be higher than UTX.  Although I do not want to buy at 25, but I may have to

    Thanks ;)

    Good Luck,

Thanks. I took both of your suggestions; it took a little tinkering to be able to buy one share of PG and one share of UTX.

Good luck Aqua.  I'll keep an eye on these.  UTX got hit today on the Diebold news, hopefully you picked it up nearer to the bottom of its daily range.  As you probably know, PG is one of Buffett's top 10 holdings so you're in good company there.  I think PG would easily retake the 200-day MA if only the overall market could get some traction.  Of course that's asking a lot these days ;)

I think I'd buy PG in your shoes.

I don't really like any of them. I think I'd short these before I bought them. (Depending on STO and CCI.)

I think I'd buy CF, MTL or CPHD long before any of these.

Anyone have anything to comment about EXC. I got out of it to buy a share of COP. Also, I got into UTX at $69.06 per share. COP is a trade for their earnings announcement, while UTX and PG are investments. Last year, I mostly had trades, but this year, I'm looking at having some investments that last 6-18 months.

Basically, my strategy this year and probably for the next 3-5 years is to buy between 8-11 sectors and try to beat the market by staying out of sectors that I think will be laggards or are too high in valuation. For example, I stay out of airlines and grocery stores because I feel they will continue to be laggards just like food was for a 15 year period. On the other hand, I have a smaller concentration in commodities because they are too hot to handle.

I think my next purchase might either be DE or MON.
