    Sell/buy timing questions

    Reply Quote

Just a few timing questions now. Only rough answers are needed for the below:

a: For any stock, how long on average does it take for shares to settle into the Zecco account once you've sold them? (I've heard it's 3 days max, but is it always 3 days?)

b: When trying to sell shares, how long does it take for them to be sold on average if the average "Volume" per day  (for that week) is only around 5000 to 20000 shares?

c: For stocks with only around 5000 to 20000 shares/volume per day on average (for that week), how likely in probability will it be that you can actually buy say 3000 shares of that stock immediately? Or should I be asking how *quickly* on average will it take it to buy 3000 shares?

    It's always three days.

The actual execution on both your second inquiries depends on the type of order and how much you'll willing to be scalped.

The higher price you pay the more likely you are to get in. Market orders execute first. So if you're in a hurry, do that.

I have been very pleased on executions. On nearly everything I've bought it's executed before I made it to the order status page. I always use limits with the exception of the VTSO.

    Thanks for your reply!

Okay, I forgot to say I'm buying/selling in off hours, so my questions are based upon the assumption that "how quick/probable" is when the market starts trading again the next day.

So for each question, insert the known closing price (say from Yahoo) for the latest day. I might undercut myself a little bit sometimes to sell/buy sooner, but for now use the exact closing price, and give the probability/amountOfTime that it will take to sell/buy. Just a rough estimate will be fine.
