    Future of Yahoo.

    Reply Quote

I am hestitant to buy stock in Yahoo.

On the one hand they have aquired some very inovated companies in the past few years. (many of whom I work with)

I see high growth potentail from their RightMedia division especially.

However, Google is destroying them in one of their core businesses, that being search.  Their other core business, content supported by display advertising, seems relatively stable, but does not look like it with be growing much if any.

Basically I like the new direction the company is going, espeically if they do end up buy AOL's content business as the internet seems to think they will. (Adding Advertising.com the largest online advertising network, as well as Tocada to their existing Rightmedia and Blue Lithium could work well)  But I am worried about the direction of their core businesses that make up the majority of their revenue.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

$12 a share is a gift, if yahoo were a piece of crap it wouldn't be #1 in the list of most visited sites all over the world. Neither so many rich people would be interested in buying the company. Appart from their services, the position or rating is much more important.

Once you see all TV stations going down and hurting time warner, cbs, disney-abc, viacom, , nws, and microsoft then you can say a $9-$12 share price for yahoo is fair.

Let the rich guys trying to make yahoo suffer for their pride do their job while you take advantage of the low price.

I don't agree with that, page views to their site is only a small portion of the puzzle. Google has a much larger slice of the advertising market on line, and most of it is from views on other sites. Views to the main site aren't concentrated on search the way they are for Google.

The main interest that MS had in buying up the company was as  a business move to block Google from buying  it up. But now that the DoJ is looking into the antitrust implications and Google has proactively stopped the deal, I'm not sure that Yahoo is worth much to anybody else.g

For reasons I've just outlined, I have to strenuously disagree that it's a matter of pride. Yahoo has lost out on a good price due to the CEO's pride. It was strategically worth the offer MS tabled when it was  offered, but now not so much. A lot of the people who had been willing to buy in at the prices available were assuming they could get a similar offer.

That's not necessarily to say that you can't make a healthy profit at $12 a share, just that nobody should be expecting the shares to get to $30 any time soon. And certainly not without huge changes to the company.

This stock is going no where fast. After Balmer publicly proclaiming the deal with MS was off the table and long gone, Yang was left standing with empty pockets. Yahoo!s public popularity better hold because frankly thats the only thing keeping it afloat.
