Movember is just around the corner. No, I didn't misspell that!
Here at Zecco we're celebrating the "month formerly known as November" by joining the Movember movement, an online community-based charity event that raises awareness for men's health issues such as testicular and prostate cancer. Here's the shtick - participants grow a mustache for the month of November to raise money. Our Product Manager Mitch discovered and joined Movember last year while traveling in the charity's homeland, Australia.
Since it's inception in 2003, over 370,000 men have grown mustaches and over $47 million has been raised for charity. Here in the US, the money is going to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the
LIVESTRONG Lance Armstrong Foundation. A very worthy cause!
Our Director of Technology Strategy Michiel was inspired by Mitch's experience and decided to launch the Mo Zecco team. He set up a Zecco "Mospace" Page and has invited everyone at Zecco to join him in the effort. The office has responded big time. Many of our co-workers have committed to growing 'staches and still more have donated to the cause. So far we've raised over a thousand dollars and are hoping to raise even mo' money in Movember. Our female colleagues, or Mo Sistas, are supporting the effort by either cheering on their facial hair-growing buddies, or wearing a faux-stache at work.
If you want to join us, please do! We'd love to see pics of your 'stache and hear about your progress. To simply make a donation, visit the Mo Zecco Team Page and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account.
To wrap up, I must return to the market, of course. I view everything through my "market glasses" and wonder what the impact of Movember will be on stocks. If hundreds of thousands of men stop shaving for a month, will P&G, the makers of Gillette razors, see their stock falter? And will Philips see a spike in their stock from the sale of their Norelco trimmers? Who knows, maybe, maybe not, but it's fun to think about!
