The Zecco Inside Scoop

Happy 3rd Birthday, Zecco!

Our little brokerage is all grown up! I remember when Zecco was just an idea; a glimmer in our eyes. Then there was the long pregnancy as we laboriously built our technology infrastructure. And finally, on July 4th, 2006, the vibrant investing community was born. The launch of our first trading platform followed soon thereafter and our toddler was off to the races.

Now we're playing in the big time. I like to think of Zecco as the rebellious teenager. Just as tall, big and strong as the old guys, but still young and aggressive, constantly pushing the envelope. Since our launch we've seen explosive customer growth; we now have over 150,000 accounts. We've aggressively upgraded our customer service experience, our brokerage platform and introduced a new business line with Zecco Forex. We've enhanced our funds transfer to make it easier for you to fund your account. As a result we saw significant improvement in our Barron's rating this year, earning 3-stars. Next year we're shooting for 4.

But as you know if you've followed my blog over the past year, I'm never satisfied. So at Zecco we're continuing to improve and push the envelope. Currently we're working our tails off on a massive new trading and website launch in Q4. The new platform will not only immediately enhance the Zecco experience, but it will also give us the flexibility to rapidly enhance the platform going forward. Think of this exercise as "the college years."

I am so grateful for the incredible team we have at Zecco. It's thanks to their relentless efforts that we are where we are today. I'd also like to extend huge thanks to you, our customers, for helping us grow! Without you there would be no Zecco. So please join me in wishing Zecco a Happy Birthday!

Congrats!  I want Zecco to add the I-Box to its feature offerings, which allows a trader to filter streaming news according to his portfolio.  Do you know who I should contact at Zecco to suggest this?

Thanks for any assistance!

I'm still waiting for an explanation on the reason to rake a person over the coals for starting an IRA/ROTH IRA account, hard enough to aquire the funds to start one, with limited contributions per year that are allowed, then have every transaction soured with a commision. How about this: 1 paid trade get 1 free, Limit 10

Not as happy of a birthday as you make it sound. It should be more of a celebration that you still have a customer base at all based on some of the tricks that have been pulled on here.

I hope zecco got a Chief Marketing officer with some integrity for its birthday otherwise your "pregnancy" resulted in a stillborn with no hope to survive.

Happy Birthday! Congradulations! May you and your customers have many more successful years to come. If you guys could bring back the free trades for the average customer that would be great! Say just 2 trades a week could make a big difference and then hopefully you/we could grow from there. That would help us out a lot. Congratulations again on your birthday and the growth and the success you've had. Again, may you and your customers have many more successful years to come. Happy Birthday.

Congrats! Zecco!  Still the cheapest way to trade an IRA account and Penson clearing is excellent..that was a letdown about the 10 free trades however...there are 100's of thousands of potential roll-over accounts out there with less than 25k that you guys may be missing because of that change.

I think for penny stocks the amount of commission fees should be a percentage of the total purchase or we should be able to choose to pay the commission once we have sold it and made a little profit.  Because so far I have paid way too much in fees for small trades sometimes the cost of the trade is half as much as the trade.  Some of the other online brokerages only charge you if you a percentage of the stock trade if the stocks are worth less than $1 a share.  The little guy wants to make some money too and when we start out it is usually not a lot to begin with so help us out Zecco.

How about we keep it free? I feel that in the near future, Zecco will no longer be known for being the "Commission Free" Trade service as it has been for so long. Like the increase from having $2,500 for free trades to now having to have over $25,000 for a measly 10 free trades. Go back to your Roots Zecco! -Aaron

I agree with the poster on top.  Let's go back to Zecco's roots & KEEP ZECCO FREE!  I have been with Zecco since almost the beginning & noticed the requirements to get free trades went from $0 with unlimited free trades, to $2,500 with 10 free trades, & now to $25,000 with 10 free trades.  At this rate it will soon be no free trades & you will loose me as a long time customer.  Also you need to fix you options commissions to charge 1 base commission & then per contract like other brokers instead of charging a base commission & per contract for each leg.  That can get very costly especially for multi-legged options orders.

Well, I guess I'm spoiled.  I began trading the market in 1970.  A $25 commission was cosidered cheap.  My broker during those years retired on my commissons!  I've been involved with more than a few on-line brokers since then.  My Zecco experience is the best, by far.  Thank you!

I think people have to be realistic, with interest rates being this low it's difficult for the free trades business model to be profitable. Plus, where else are you going to go if you ever want a shot at free trades? BoA and Wells have even worse restrictions. Thanks to Jeroen for this awesome service. By the way, charts don't work for most NYSE listed preferred stocks ;)
