A couple of us “Zecconians”
got a chance to attend the Facebook Developers
Garage this weekend. It was an exciting opportunity to interact with
a lot of other people in the community space and see what other companies are
up to, and interact with some of the most innovative people in the
industry. And it was truly enjoyable to discuss Zecco with others – free
stock trading turns a lot of heads, especially when it’s paired with the same
Web 2.0 community concepts that everyone there was there promoting.
Everyone jumped at the idea of using all these great community tools for something
useful, rather than simply throwing sheep at people on Facebook.

Trying not to be daunted by the hoards of people attending
the event - almost all were well under 30, actively doing something on their blackberries
and packing an already-large room so that the only available space was standing
in the doorsill – we listened to several presentations by people making very
successful Facebook applications. Besides new buzzwords like “social graph” being
dropped at every
opportunity, one of the most interesting parts of the day was a new twist
on the power of privacy, something that we think about a lot at Zecco.
Their take was that rather than seeing privacy as a restriction that limits
things that users can or cannot do, it should rather be treated as something
that enables users to do more.
We like that sort of thinking. By letting users manage
their sharing settings, we can enable ZeccoShare users to open up their
portfolios and trades. In the future, we’ll be able to take another step
and let users share their data everywhere – on their Zecco blogs, personal
blogs, even on their Facebook pages! But only if they want to, of course
– and that’s how the power of privacy enables all of us to do more with
Zecco. So we’re coming up with new ways for everyone to share.
We’ve got some ideas for some cool widgets, and we’re brainstorming ways to
integrate with other networks like Facebook or LinkedIn. If anyone has
ideas about how you’d like to interact with ZeccoShare, feel free to drop us a
line at zecccoshare@zecco.com.
