Impressions From the Web 2.0 Expo


One of the most encouraging and motivating aspects of the first two days’ worth of sessions I attended was the clear message that success is driven by delivering an awesome user experience.  Words like beautiful, delightful, and polite seemed to dominate the discourse.  I’m glad that the user experience has been the recent focus of the Zecco management as well – getting this right will take us to the next level.

Along with the warm, fuzzy feeling that we have the right ideas, however, was a sinking realization that we have not yet done as good as we should have on this front.  Once the speakers and panelists started digging into the details of customer experience and how to create it, I began to realize how much work there’s still ahead of us.

Let me highlight some of the main themes that I heard:
  1. Know your customer.  And interact with them.
  2. We (Zecco Employees) are not the target audience.
  3. Experience comes from the details.  This is hard, and can be differentiating.
  4. Experience is user-driven, NOT feature-driven.
  5. We all clearly need to read more – we’re not the smartest people out there.
  6. "Sharing” and “being social” is a small part of the picture.  We are part of an ecosystem where information moves across well-defined boundaries.

I’m already looking forward to more exciting sessions, and will keep you all updated.

$20/month? Does it cost Zecco some amount of money ($.01-$20.00) to
offer this service to it's clients? Or is Zecco simply falling in
line with all the other brokers out there who are charging for
more sophisticated services?
Imagine the surge of new subscribers to Zecco (under the
condition that his/her account holds $2,500) if the Quotestream
service fell under Zecco's slogan of 'zero.'

@bastelma - We think everything should be free.  Unfortunately, Zecco has to find some revenue sources.  And in general it’s a good practice for companies like ours to charge a bit for premium services – just like Flickr, Linked In, Amazon, and many other companies that we admire

i really hate that zecco continues to get bashed for deciding to charge for "the perks". like the other guy said above, they need to have a revenue stream. when i was new here is became very worried about their ability to survive. i am so pleased that they are not only surviving, but are making improvements that are immediately noticed. when they made money transfers intuitive a few weeks ago i was elated. then just today i noticed that my total equity figures was updating in real-time instead of being updated each morning!SAAAHWHEEEAT!

pay no attention to the haters, zecco... just keep listening to your clients needs, and they (and I) will gladly give you operating expenses! rock on.

I think streaming quotes for the accounts of $2500.00 or more should be free. It would be nice when your trying to purchase stocks at the market price if you didn't have to worry about the delay.  My free Yahoo portfolio is streaming.

In addition, to the 10 FREE trades. Also it is a wonderful to
keep social relations between customers and employees.
