Investment bank Merrill Lynch has seized $400 million in assets of a troubled hedge fund at Bear Stearns and plans to sell them off, The Wall Street Journal reported in its weekend edition. - WSJ

BHP Billiton, the world's biggest mining group, has revived plans for a $40 billion takeover of aluminum producer Alcoa (AA) the Times newspaper said in an unsourced report on Monday.
Talks under which Cadence Design Systems, (CDNS) the San Jose, Calif., producer of chip-design equipment, would be taken private have been suspended because of disagreement on price, people close to the matter told The New York Times. The suitors are Blackstone Group and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, the paper said. Cadence's current market value is $6.5 billion; the shares closed Friday at $23.30. - MarketWatch
The Finish Line, Inc. (FINL) and Genesco Inc. (GCO) today announced that the Boards of Directors of both companies have unanimously approved a definitive merger agreement under which The Finish Line will acquire all of the outstanding common shares of Genesco for $54.50 per share in cash. The total transaction value is approximately $1.5 billion. The offer price represents a premium of 37.7% over Genesco's three-month average undisturbed stock price ended March 9, 2007. The transaction is expected to be completed in Fall 2007. The Finish Line expects the transaction to be accretive to its net income, before consideration of incremental amortization resulting from the transaction, in the first full year after closing.
